Edgbaston Archery & Lawn Tennis Society
Edgbaston Archery & Lawn Tennis Society is the oldest Lawn Tennis Club in the World. It was founded in 1860 and tennis was first played in 1873 shortly after the game was first played in nearby Ampton Rd, Edgbaston.
It is situated adjacent to the beautiful Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
The Club has 2 Astroturf courts with floodlights, 4 shale and 6 grass courts and a clubhouse with a bar, kitchen and changing rooms.
Membership of the Club is open to players of all ages & standard. The club welcomes families and there are special family membership rates.
Courts may be hired at off peak times.
The Club caters for both competitive and recreational play. There are also social events throughout the year.
There is an extensive adult, junior and mini tennis coaching programme at the club. The club coaches also offer individual/small group lessons Cardio tennis. Coaching for people with visual impairment is also available.
The Club has many adult, junior and mini tennis teams playing in both Local and National Leagues.
In the weekday evenings there are a Club Night, Mens mix in, Ladies Mix in, Team Practice, a Club Night and Adult Coaching plus Junior and Mini Tennis coaching.
At the weekends there are regular organised Sunday afternoon mix ins plus Junior, Mini Tennis Coaching and Ladies Team Training.
The Clubhouse is available for private hire for functions.
